Emelia wasn’t born with any special powers or abilities, but her subsequent vanishing from Earth and arrival on Pern through a mysterious Waypoint has awakened … something. Whatever it is, she’s not sure what it’ll mean for her or her future.

Beyond academics, she has been an active athlete her entire life and grew up navigating the rugged mountains of her home state alone and over great distances.

Lia is driven to action by a few things; chiefly when she feels that something contradicts her moral code - or she feels that an early intervention will save someone unnecessary struggle and grief later. Beyond that, she can be goaded into a fight if one assaults her sense of fair play or common decency, but she generally has a cool temper and a steadying presence during times of conflict.

Physical Description

Emelia, often referred to as just ‘Lia,’ is an active young woman with a lean, athletic frame. Growing up in the Rocky Mountains of the Western United States has lent her the benefit of world-class outdoor activities year-round, and it shows in her finely chiseled physique and healthy habits. Growing up, Lia cut her teeth on the sharp slopes behind her family’s suburban Durango home, and she has an exceptional sense of spatial awareness for it. Though she is quite tall, she doesn’t appear burdened by it; preferring to stride with pride and purpose wherever she goes. Maybe she had a boyfriend or two who wanted her to avoid heels or stoop her shoulder a little - but if she did, she doesn’t mention them and has remained unapologetically herself.

Personality Description

Discerning: Lia takes very little for granted and has made it a habit to consistently question the ‘why’ of any given situation. She takes it a step further, though, and unironically questions the ‘why’ of her relationships, her actions and even her own thought processes. The result is she is remarkably discerning, and often appears to see deeper than she ought to - particularly for someone her age. Her caution has seen her through many troubles, though it has equally held her back from triumphs that a little bit of risk-taking would have clenched for her.

Sincere: Lia is unfailingly true to her word - if only because she’s thought it through. Extensively. She is the living embodiment of saying what she means, and meaning what she says. Lying will never be easy for her, and she’ll avoid it even if a white lie may serve her purpose better. Her authenticity is probably one of her strongest virtues, but also a deep flaw, as it sometimes leads to her being unnecessarily blunt.

Caring: She’d never be considered abrasive, however. She cares too much about people and the world they live in to willingly say or do things to hurt someone. Sure, she may not lie to make you feel better - but she will tell you how wonderful you are - and coming from her? You better believe it’s true. Lia has an uncanny knack for seeing straight to the heart of the matter, and she’s unafraid to address complicated and painful subjects head on. Her capacity for empathy for her people is as wide as it is deep, and filled with every ounce of her compassionate heart.

Perfectionist: It would be fair to describe Emelia as meticulous, but the truth goes deeper than that. She’s a perfectionist because she has a mission - a calling, one could say - to be the best version of herself she can be. To that end, she is a merciless driver towards self betterment; even when it means running herself ragged. With a mission firmly clenched in her hands, she will see it done with a rigid adherence to the task as described. Flexibility isn’t one of her strong suits when it comes to the general day-to-day minutiae of life.

Ethical: Hard-nosed she may be, sometimes, but there is no questioning that Lia has an ironclad set of morals and ethics that guides her every step. Timeline:

Born to Bianca and Damion Angevin in the spring; she was a sickly child and the birth was difficult for her mother. Her parents decided not to try again to bring siblings into the world.

Raised by a mining engineer and his teacher wife, Emelia grew up fairly well-rounded and well adjusted. She started school without fanfare and scored consistently well despite her medical struggles as an infant.

Enrolled in sports and other activities as soon as her father could convince her mother; she became something of a daddy’s girl

By the beginning of middle school, her very black and white views of right and wrong started to cause her trouble, socially. She was either praised as a champion of justice, or chastised as a tattle-tale. Emelia never really learned the difference.

By the time she hit high school, she had managed to become a decent team player and performed well in several varsity sports, namely cross country and volleyball. Still, she never quite fit in, and the other girls often excluded her from outings to the mall and sleepovers. Emelia didn’t seem to mind, though. She’d taken up with a group of quiet kids and learned about a type of game called ‘Dungeons & Dragons.’

Though classified by most of the school social elite as a ‘jock’ - Lia definitely considered herself one of the ‘nerds,’ and she made a point to defend her new group of friends to her teammates and in class whenever the opportunity presented itself.

Briefly dated a fellow jock/nerd crossover from the hockey team, but the lad proved to be more of a tool then she cared to deal with. She broke it off, and her father was very proud of her for socking him in the nose when he reacted poorly to the news.

Things took a downturn her senior year when the ‘nerds’ she’d befriended either graduated the year prior, or simply disbanded. Finding herself without a social group to attach herself to, she retreated into sports and began playing online games. Her parents worried, but everything seemed fine.

Towards the end of her senior year, when college essays had been sent and letters were coming in - disaster struck. Emelia learned that one of her friends had committed suicide in her second semester at the local community college. Lia took it extremely poorly, blaming herself for not checking up on her friend and ensuring she was doing alright. This was exacerbated by a hiking trip Lia had taken where her phone was out of service. Upon her return, she found dozens of messages from her friend, begging her to call. It was days too late.

Lia’s parents took her to grief counseling once they learned the news, but she clammed up and refused to talk about it. This stone-walling behavior would continue - and worsen - for the next year and into her first year of college.

Somehow, Emelia managed to keep her grades up and herself out of trouble - but she never got over the loss of her friend or her failure. She changed her major a few times, but eventually graduated with a bachelors in biology; a stepping stone, she called it, to something like being a doctor or a nurse. Maybe. If she wasn’t actually a screw up.

Then she took a gap year before graduate school.

And another.

By 24, she was living on her own far from Colorado, in a city she didn’t like doing a dead-end job she hated. Her parents worried about her incessantly, but she continued to rebuke their attempts to help her.

Then, she happened across a Discord server and a group of people looking to add a member to their Dungeons & Dragons campaign. Something told her to give it another try - it was an escape from reality; something she desperately needed.

The group soon became real friends, even though they never met in person. Emelia created an entirely new character for their joint endeavors; a kalashtar tank of a paladin she crafted after herself. Or, more accurately, her old self. Or maybe even the self she wished she could be. The character was named Leetari.

She got a tattoo of a dragon over her wrist in honor of her friend, and ensured that ‘Leetari’ has the same tattoo in-character.

Cranberry IGPC Flit "Merlot"

This sociable firelizard is loving towards her owner, and will always come immediately when called. She always investigates any new person she meets, and gets along well with most other animals.

She's bright and knows some basic commands. She will always try to get into the bath when someone is using it. She is extremely playful and can entertain herself for hours on end with a stuffed toy. She's usually silent except when she needs something.

She's not a picky eater. Her favorite food is shrimp and she likes to eat bubblypies at Gather time.

She loves to go on adventures and can normally be found on her person's shoulder.

Black w/Copper IGPC Flit "Noir"

This chill 'lizard is friendly toward his owner, but will eventually come when called. He is not afraid of strangers, and will happily play with other animals.

He's silly and often gets stuck in silly places. He is not very clean and can usually be found in dark corners, covered in dust and lord knows what else. He is moderately playful and can entertain himself for hours on end.

He's not a picky eater. His favorite food is cooked wherry, particular off his person's plate.
