Blais

& Altazil Dargan

Physical Description

Blais is a towering presence among the Elderwillow Herd, a stallion whose sheer size and build command immediate attention. Massive for a regular Soquili, he is heavily muscled, with the unmistakable physique of a seasoned warhorse forged through decades of battle and rigorous duty. Every inch of him exudes strength and experience, his body a living testament to a lifetime spent protecting his herd.

His rich chestnut coat gleams with health, its surface broken by bold white patches that form rugged, windswept patterns—reminiscent of storm clouds rolling across the horizon. Thick feathering above his powerful, jet-black hooves adds to his imposing figure, while his mane and tail flow in cascades of warm gold and flaxen hues, catching the light like sun-drenched fields. Despite his enormous stature, there is an understated elegance in his movements, his fluid gait a sign of both agility and control.

Blais’ broad chest and muscular shoulders give way to a sturdy frame that is built for endurance and strength, a living warhorse sculpted for the battlefield. His powerful legs and arched neck convey not only his physical dominance but also a readiness for action, his form constantly at ease yet primed for defense.

His face is strikingly noble, defined by a proud blaze of white running from his forehead to his nose. Deep, amber-hued eyes shine with wisdom and warmth, reflecting the trials he has endured and the compassion that tempers his immense strength. His gaze is both penetrating and inviting, capable of intimidating a foe or reassuring a frightened ally with equal ease.

Around his neck hangs a finely crafted pendant: a feather and bead design suspended on a red cord. This simple yet significant adornment is a personal emblem of his connection to the Elderwillow Herd and its enduring legacy. It serves as a reminder of his role as protector and the values he upholds.

Despite his formidable appearance, Blais carries himself with calm dignity and quiet pride. He is a bastion of strength and safety within the herd, yet his gentle demeanor reveals a depth of character that balances his physical power. Whether leading his herd into battle or offering a reassuring presence in times of peace, Blais is the embodiment of a warrior’s strength and a guardian’s heart.

Personality

Virtues: Resilient, Empathetic, Loyal, Honest, Disciplined
Flaws: Stubborn, Overcritical, Proud, Guarded, Impatient

Blais, the prodigal son of Flame, is a testament to the strength that emerges from embracing hardship and growing through adversity. His life has been shaped by trials that tested the core of his character, sculpting him into a figure of quiet strength and steadfast resilience. Once plagued by a troubled relationship with his sire, Flame—a bond that was fraught with conflict and anger—Blais has since found a path to reconciliation and mutual respect. Today, he and Flame stand united as mentors and pillars of wisdom for the Elderwillow herd, offering guidance born of experience and tempered by understanding.

Blais emanates a warmth that draws others to him, a presence that acts as a comforting refuge amid the chaos of life. His quiet confidence reflects the deep wells of strength he has cultivated over years of personal growth and hard-fought victories. Yet, his warmth is not mere softness; it is paired with the gravity of one who has weathered storms and emerged unbroken. Blais’ empathy is rooted in his own struggles, allowing him to connect with others on a deeply personal level. He listens with intent, offering counsel that is both practical and compassionate, making him a trusted confidant to those in need of guidance.

Blais' unyielding determination is one of his defining traits. He is propelled forward by an innate belief in his ability to overcome challenges, a quality that has earned him the respect of those who follow his lead. However, this fierce drive is tempered by humility; Blais recognizes that perfection is an illusion and that growth is a lifelong endeavor. His humility allows him to admit when he is wrong and to learn from his mistakes—a quality that balances his natural pride. Even so, Blais' pride can be a double-edged sword. While it gives him the strength to stand firm in his convictions, it also makes him reluctant to seek help or admit vulnerabilities, a trait that occasionally isolates him from those who care for him.

Honesty is the bedrock of Blais' character. He values clear communication and believes in addressing both strengths and shortcomings openly. His critiques are direct but never cruel, aimed at fostering growth rather than tearing others down. Similarly, his praise is sincere and heartfelt, reinforcing the efforts of those under his guidance. Blais' approach to leadership is a blend of tough love and unwavering support; he holds others to high standards but stands ready to support them as they strive to meet those expectations. His ability to mentor others is deeply rooted in his understanding of their struggles, and his advice, while sometimes blunt, is always given with the herd's best interests in mind.

As a former Protector of the Elderwillow herd, Blais' connection to the environment is unparalleled. He possesses an almost instinctual ability to detect changes in the landscape and anticipate potential challenges, whether they come from nature or external threats. This role honed his instincts and deepened his bond with the land, earning him a reputation as a keen strategist. However, his diplomacy skills are less refined, and he is the first to admit that smooth talking is not his forte, often humorously reminding others to call on someone else when tact is required. Despite this, his integrity and straightforwardness have a way of earning trust, even when his words are more cutting than kind.

Blais’ personality is a mosaic of virtues and flaws, each intricately woven together to create a stallion of depth and complexity. His resilience, empathy, and determination make him an inspiring leader, while his stubbornness, pride, and occasional impatience remind others that he is as fallible as anyone else. Together, these qualities make Blais not only a formidable figure but also a relatable one—a stallion who embodies the strength, wisdom, and heart of the Elderwillow herd.

History

As a youth, he was as reckless and jubilant as any proud parent could wish...

But such parents did not exist for Blais.

His father Flame had run from the herd before Blais was born, and the young painted cold was raised on the stigma that HE would be just as ... rogue... as his father was. The herd itself was a typical patriarchal herd, where the females caved more often then not to the whims of the males, and the notion of 'chivalry' was reduced to the bare minimum to please a doting father. Flame was, in truth, not a true rogue, but rather a free spirit who found the selfish and insular doctrines of the herd suffocating.

Blais...

Well Blais had little option but to remain and bear the brunt of his father's shame.. though he never learned the reason behind the constant teasing and punishments.

As a result he grew to be extremely bitter towards the memory of his father, and when he became a full stallion, he was charged by the herd patriarchs to find the stallion of fire and bring him to task.

What Blais didn't know was the real reason behind such a task. The herd elders did not really care if the rogue Flame was ever reprimanded, they only knew that such a strong powerful personality as Blais's would soon revolt if they did not give his rage an outlet. The double success of not only setting the son on the father but ridding themselves of the burly young stallion was particularly attractive.

Oblivious, and very.. very.. angry, Blais set off into the wide world for all the wrong reasons.

As time went on, he did eventually meet his father, and in the resulting turmoil.. he learned a little of himself. Between the rough training her received from Crousader to literally pound the vicious anger out of his head and his blooming true personality, Blais did eventually come to terms with his father, and he even met his future lifemate in the form of Cynara.

Their courtship was interesting, at least for Blais, and they finally wed and had three beautiful children. But as with his 'uncle' Tai, duty and the needs of his herd drew him farther away then he ever intended to be. Unlike Tai, Blais refuses to stagnate in his own pool of self doubt, opting instead to fight for the family he wanted to have and the father he was committed to being.

Thankfully, Cynara forgave him, and their bond is as strong as ever with another gaggle of colts and fillies soon following.
